Volume 11, October 2006

(Download a printable .DOC version here)

Welcome to October. I am very excited to announce to those of you in the Pittsburgh area the opening of my new office at 1002 Greentree Rd! It will be much bigger and easier to get to, just off of I-279. And yes, of course, it’s right across from Starbucks for those of you who are caffeine-deprived.

October is going to be a good month, with the aftermath of the Saturn-Neptune opposition and 2 eclipses, the Sun’s entry into Scorpio, another Mercury Retrograde period, the end of Daylight Savings, and finally Halloween. Have we all survived since Pluto is now a dwarf? Tell someone going through a Pluto transit that it’s just a wittle dwarf.

Believe me, I’m tired of beating this dead horse too, but now that we are on the other side of this 8/31 Saturn opposition to Neptune, a few words need to be said. When a major transit is “over” geometrically, its effect can not only persist for months but sometimes doesn’t even manifest until afterwards. A long story short echoes what I have been stressing for 2 or 3 months. Saturn has “forced” us to face our issues. Draw a line, stand your ground, and face parts of your life that aren’t working. And at the same time, keep your valid, heart-felt dreams alive (Neptune). Saturn has also brought most of us the courage to face these things. For others who have unfortunately insisted on maintaining the head-in-the-sand posture, the situation has become dire.

Lot’s going on, let’s get started because October promises to be a great month. Why? Succinctly, because the Sun is traveling with Mars and Venus (sexy and pleasant) and there is a traveling T-square to Jupiter in Scorpio. Many of us will experience Fall as a huge boost to our sense of self-worth and we will receive verification that we are on the right track.

On a much lighter note, I officially propose that we change the calendar.

We ought to have 13 months each year with 28 days in each instead of this inconvenient arrangement that we currently live with? I know it’s a bit late to propose such a notion. If we did though, we’d have a New and Full Moon each month and be in synch with the planets (otherwise known as Nature). There would be exactly four weeks in every month always. This would account for 364 days. Those of you born at the end of February can argue about what to do with the extra 1.25 days each year. Do I hear a second?

On a related note, it has been pointed out to me and with some interesting finds in Wikipedia, I have found out that the days of the week are each associated with a planet. They are as follows:

Sunday - Sun

Monday – Moon

Tuesday – Mars

Wednesday - Mercury

Thursday - Jupiter

Friday - Venus

Saturday – Saturn

We celebrate Libra this month

10/6 Full Moon 11:13pm 13˚ Aries 43’ – This Full Moon is definitely going to be a welcome one. It is traveling opposite the fab trio of the Sun, Venus and Mars, all in Libra. Translation: this one is going to bring us some good beginnings and rejuvenation to our relationships. This will come in handy especially with the persistent bruising of the recent Saturn/Neptune opposition, the 9/7 Uranian Lunar eclipse, and the 9/22 Plutonian Solar eclipse. Also, some beautiful, charismatic children are about to be born. This is also accompanying a powerful T-square to Jupiter, making things even better! No, you can’t all win the lottery at once.

Per sign, this is how I see it manifesting in general for the rest of the month:

Aries (Mar 21-Apr 19)  Feeling good about yourself, The Ram plunges head-strong into new relationships with great confidence. Your charm abounds. People are infatuated with you and your winning, simple, direct ways. Usually not a shy sign, this is your time to ask that certain someone for a date or turn over a new leaf in a stale relationship. You have nothing but green lights ahead!

Taurus (Apr 20-May 20) Things not only go well for you with personal relationships, but also with fellow workers. The ever patient Bull now finds a stronger sense of urgency especially when it comes to pairing up with others. Usually Taurus only allows others to grow on them slowly. Now, this new confidence and ease helps them to be more accessible. Great time to ask for a raise – boy, will they like hearing that.

Gemini (May 21-Jun 21) Things could not be any better in the realm of friends and relationships. As a matter of fact, you may even confuse the two right now. No problem, Gemini, the juggler, can always handle two sides of every issue, eh? This is simply a great time to have some refreshing fun with everyone. Your chart speaks loudly of healing (Jupiter in the sixth) through being surrounded by loved ones.

Cancer (Jun 22-Jul 22) Societal and job pressures ease up on you for once. Somehow the balance between world and home starts to work out. The Crab is finding the courage to adventure out from under the safety of their Cancerian rock and face the world head-on. You will find allies as you do this. Even your children will come to your aid. The perfect time for a very big family picnic.

Leo (Jul 23-Aug 22) Find the biggest station wagon you can, cram as many family members into it as you can, and head off to WallyWorld! You have the opportunity now to express your big dreams and show everyone how loud your roar can be and just how wide your arms can spread. Leo has had it tough since Saturn entered 7/16/05. This will really help you start to feel like your old hirsute self. Travel, do something daring. Redeem that raincheck for that bungee-jumping lesson.

Virgo (Aug 23-Sep 22) Sticky money situations between you and others are starting to work out. Your recent decisiveness and resoluteness is paying off. Somehow, other people have been holding you down and this is your chance to smoothly slide past them. Your honesty always pays off. Now, if you have to, is the perfect time to ask for that big loan you may be in need of. Bring in the harvest.

Libra (Sep 23-Oct 22) Self-worth is on the rise this month as you are taking the bull by the horns in all of your relationships. You are winning now because you are putting yourself first. About time. Nothing more to say here. It’s that simple.

Scorpio (Oct 23 - Nov 21) For once, you are getting somewhat detached from your relationships and feeling the need to address your own integration. You are finding the desire and courage to do so now. This will pay off with a much greater sense of self-worth as you unhitch your wagon from the continual pressure of having your relationship supply all of your needs. Ahhh.” That was the sound of your partner sighing.

Sagittarius (Nov 22-Dec 21) This is the perfect time to take that large mind of yours and eagerly enter the mix with other spiritually-minded folk. Support is pouring into your life from all around as people are attracted to your lightness and fun-loving nature. Make your move – go do something big with your group. Have a bonfire. Have a séance. Have a weenie roast. Invoke and invite the spirits for footlongs.

Capricorn (Dec 22-Jan 19) “Home On the Range” is the song. Dive headlong into solving your home situation. Quit waiting. The inner-support is here to tackle the ongoing home/career issues. If you have to change something, do it. A roommate of mine once smashed down an interior wall with a sledgehammer without giving me any warning. He didn’t want it there anymore. Simple solution. There aren’t any rules.

Aquarius (Jan 20-Feb 18) No one has ever held you back before and you’re not going to allow them to start now. This really is time to launch new adventures for yourself. You’re always full of exciting new ideas for what can be done – for what’s possible. Get out of your Edisonian head and go do it! The doorways are opening now. You just need to walk through them!

Pisces (Feb 19-Mar 20) Wonderful-hearted Pisces is finally finding some long-needed self-worth. You’re now starting to benefit from all of your recent tussles. You have learned that you matter. The better you feel about yourself, the more you have to give. And giving is your true nature. Keep it up – here’s a toast to the Fishes!

10/7 Yo Yo Ma turns 51 – French-born to Chinese parents, Ma is one of the greatest cellist to ever live. Artists and musicians always have charts with tremendous activation of one of the outer planets: Uranus, Neptune, or Pluto (yes, I’m still calling it a planet). And many times all at once. This is where the musical inspiration and ability comes from. Period.

Still, Ma has to be tremendously dedicated to practicing, but, the channel is there for him to take advantage of it. Four planets in Libra, the sign of music. Mercury (mind) next to Neptune (spiritual link). It’s usually Neptune’s ethereal connection. Jupiter/Pluto in Leo gives him his passion, Mars in Virgo his phenomenal manual dexterity and precision. Moon in Gemini trine (120 degrees) to his Mercury/Neptune conjunction gives him his wide repertoire and flexibility. Simply a remarkable chart. So, we see his mind (Mercury) is next to Neptune, sextile (60 degrees) to Pluto (power & passion), and square to Uranus (brilliance). It takes these kind of combinations and disciplined hard work to manifest genius.

A final note: His Saturn is strong too. Even though Saturn is the antithesis of inspiration, it always takes a strong Saturn to give one the stamina to keep it all together. So much for Saturn-naysayers.

10/14-15 Neptune Squares Mercury – Don’t be surprised if you feel a bit muddle-headed for a day or two. It’s a good time for spiritual inspiration, but not necessarily for detailed work. If you have to sign an important paper, read it thrice. The “Professor” Irwin Corey (Leo) had Neptune conjunct Mercury. Makes perfect sense to me.

10/22 New Moon 1:14am 28˚ Libra 40’ – Hug an ape today. This really is an incredible one. You may not notice it because things are going to go so smoothly, but here’s the scenario. The Sun and Moon in Libra will be flanked closely by Venus and Mars (charm) in Libra along with Mercury and Jupiter (well-being) in Scorpio. This is very nice combination. This can mean so many things but in general, it is a time to feel and own your inner charms. Your uniqueness. Appreciate yourself and your neighborhood – it is clearly a time to glow. Astrologically, this is flat out a great time for narcissism. Buy a nice mirror.

God, (can I use that word?), could we use about 5 billion more of him right now on this planet. This is a Mr. Roger’s New Moon. You are special. Thank you Fred (Pisces of course).

The Mood Starts Changing

10/25 Venus Conjuncts Mars 2:10am – Great time for romance. Romantic love became a recognized passion in the Middle Ages, when in some cases insurmountable barriers of morality or convention separated the lovers. The effect of physical attraction and impossibility of intimacy resulted in an excessive regard of the beloved as extremely precious. Winning the love, or at least the attention, of the beloved, motivated great efforts of many kinds, such as poetry, song or feats of arms. (courtesy Wikipedia) Of all the people I read for, what do you think their #1 topic of interest is?

- Jupiter’s Great Red Spot is larger than the earth and is a storm that has been brewing for centuries.

- Other names that were considered for the planet Neptune were: Janus, Oceanus, and Leverrier

- The names of Mars' two moons, Phobos and Deimos, in Greek, fear and dread, respectively.- There are now three "dwarf planets:" Eris, Ceres, and of course Pluto

- The preferred pronunciation of “Libra” is “Lye-bra”, but you’ll sound uppity if you use it.

- Can you believe that all of these people were born under the sign of Libra? F.Scott Fitzgerald, Bela Lugosi, Mahatma Gandhi, John Lennon, Groucho Marx, Chuck Berry, Lee Harvey Oswald, Aleister Crowley, Julie Andrews, Truman Capote, Christopher Reeve, Bruce Springsteen, and Luciano Pavarotti, Jimmy Carter, and Evel Knievel.

Dear Kid Astro, Since I have free will, how can Astrology still “work?”

Well, I’d like to meet the guy who knows for sure whether we have free will or not. Needless to say, we need to proceed as if we do. Astrology doesn’t override your will. However, it does show when you, the surfer, will encounter a big wave or two. It’s up to the surfer to master the board and ride or cower from it. I must have been a sailor in a past lifetime as I keep using sailing metaphors. Astrology shows when the wind will blow, from what direction and gives a basic description of your boat and sailing gear. It’s up to you to understand it, get in touch with yourself and take its guidance in order to have a more enjoyable and fruitful voyage. Some boats are heavy, some light. You’re not going to change that. And some routes are bumpier than others. Just like Forrest Gump said, “I think maybe it’s a little of both.”

Next month Kid Astro analyzes such offhanded remarks as “What got into you?” “I don’t know what came over him.” “I’m going to wait until the spirit moves me.” “What’s eating at you?” “I’ve had it up to here!” “When the time is right.” And his favorite: “What goes around, comes around.”
